AIRPOWER is the largest air and performance show of the Austrian Armed Forces and once again attracted over 250,000 visitors to Zeltweg, including Education Minister Martin Polaschek, Governor Christopher Drexler and Science Councillor Barbara Eibinger-Miedl and JR Managing Director Heinz Mayer. This outstanding event, which attracts international attention, not only offered spectacular flight demonstrations, but also a platform for pioneering innovations in the field of security and defence.

The team of experts led by Director Matthias Rüther and Business Area Coordinator Alexander Almer presented the following pioneering projects, among others:

  • Vitalmonitor: A multisensory, body-worn vital signs monitoring system specially developed for military training and deployment scenarios. The vital signs monitor enables real-time monitoring of soldiers' physiological parameters in order to optimally support their health and performance and minimise the risk of overload.
  • KI-secAssist: An innovative project in which artificial intelligence is used for cooperative air and ground robotics to assist emergency services in crisis situations. Intelligent assistance systems are used to make operations in hazardous environments safer and more efficient. AI-secAssist thus makes a significant contribution to increasing the safety of soldiers and civilians.
  • The Austrian Armed Forces' space initiative: Another highlight we presented was our contribution to space research. An initiative of the Federal Ministry of Defence aims to ensure national sovereignty in the field of satellite-based earth observation and the security of satellite navigation.

AIRPOWER 2024 provided an ideal opportunity to present our projects and technologies to a broad specialist audience and interested laypersons, while at the same time further strengthening our close cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Defence. The numerous discussions and the lively interest in our stand confirm that our research in the field of security and defence makes an important contribution to the further development of national and international defence technologies.

"Security research is crucial to mastering current and future challenges in an increasingly networked world. In the defence sector, a country's technological sovereignty is of particular importance, and our research and development work in the security sector at the research location of Styria makes a significant contribution to this at a national level. Whether in crisis situations such as natural disasters or military operations, our research projects help to protect people and infrastructure," Matthias Rüther, Director of the DIGITAL Institute

We thank the BMLV for the invitation and are already looking forward to future co-operations!
