Abstract:
The shortage in the spectrum for mobile satellite services (MSS) motivated the idea to utilize fixed satellite services such as high throughput satellites (HTS) as support. In this paper, a flexible air interface demonstrator was developed in software and hardware on a SDR platform that enables the performance analysis of GEO satellites for future broadband mobile interactive networks. The demonstrator covers the forward and return link with DVB-S2x and DVB-RCS2 respectively, a full modem implementation as well as high power amplifier (HPA) non-linearities, phase noise, Doppler effects and tropospheric attenuation to create realistic system conditions. The investigated mobile scenarios include vehicular, train and aeronautic use-cases. The individual scenario performance using Adaptive coding and modulation (ACM) was measured in terms of frame error rate (FER), service availabilities and spectral efficiency
